TES Article featuring Language Link, September 2008

In this TES article Language Link is used as an example of technology that may replace observation in the classroom. We do not see the issue as being that clear cut. We believe that in some instances technology can enhance observation, such as with the understanding of language where most Speech and Language Therapists agree that this cannot be judged by observation alone. The original article appeared opposite an interview with a head teacher at a Kent primary school who gave very positive feedback on Language Link and stated how the children regarded the assessment as just another classroom activity. This is the key to using technology to enhance observation, if it can be done in a way that is fun and not stressful for the children involved.
